Yama, the supreme ruler of the Underworld, commands the spirits of the dead. His name is feared throughout the netherworld, as all beings tremble before his authority. Death by unjust means or living a wasted life is seen as disrespecting the cycle of life. Yama punishes those who die unjustly by sentencing them to the Hell of Torment, where they endure painful punishments for the remainder of their would-be lives.
